What we can remember
Between us we've spent about 44 years in this group. We remember
how the group was very big. We remember different tutors and students.
We remember Jimmy King and his holidays in Spain and how he used to buy and sell
flats. He worked in a steamie when he was young, We remember David Templeton.
He told us about his diabetes. He wrote a book for ABE and showed us photos of
his holidays. Sadly both of these students passed away.
We remember Steve, the baker, who was on night shifts a lot. And John who we called
Big John (because there were two Johns and Big John was a big guy.) Tam, the Hibs
groundsman. Debbie, Michelle who was a film buff, Pauline who made tapestries,
Thomas who loved battles and lots more.
We remember lots of volunteer tutors: Beth (who has groups of her own now), Hazel
who became a schoolteacher, Helen and Harriet and some others whose names we've
forgotten.
And then there was Peter who has helped so many people and has been so much part
of our group. He's had to learn an awful lot of biology through I working with
Khalid on his HNC/D in Health, Fitness and Exercise.
We remember Dorothy. She was not bad. She has had three children over the 13 years
she's been here. She used to help us when we needed help, and supported the group
in so many things. She helped us with spelling, with difficult words and with
computers and things. She has been more like a friend than a tutor. Finally she
made a delicious, lopsided cake for the group on our last evening together.
We've been an all right group. Robert, Paul, John, Khalid. We'll all miss each
other
