Guy Fawkes (Paula and Shaun for Gordon)
The Catholics decided to murder the whole of the Governrnent and King
James, because the King was not sympathetic to Catholics.
Thomas Winter went to Flanders to persuade a soldier called Guy Fawkes
to help them.
They were going to blow up the Houses of Parliament when the King, the
Members of Parliament and the Lords all met there. They wanted to choose
their own rulers.
They rented a cellar under the House of Lords and put 36 barrels of gunpowder
in the cellar.
One of the gang warned Lord Monteagle. Lord Monteagle told the security
men. They searched the place and found Guy Fawkes red-handed with the
gunpowder.
Guy Fawkes was taken to the tower and tortured. He was put on trial, found guilty
of treason and hung.
